I just went to the Indian grocery store to stock up on staples like chai masala and dal, and to my amusement they had added a new section:

I got everything I needed and more, including some jaggery that I don’t know what to do with yet. But unfortunately no Meditarian items…

I read your entry and wanted to share a recipe you perhaps already tried(?) Its called ‘paanakam’ and is served in Tamil homes in summer, especially during the Sri Raama Navami festival.

Ingredients
Jaggery (powdered) - 1 cup.
Water - 3 cups.
Lemon - 2.
Dried ginger (powdered) - 1 ½ tsp.
Cardamom (crushed) - 1/2 tsp.
Pepper & salt - to taste.
Method: Mix the jaggery in water and dissolve it well. Filter to remove impurities. Add lemon juice, dried ginger powder, cardamom, pepper and salt to taste. Mix well. Serve chilled.
