Spiritual Book Club / Support Group

I finally went to yoga this morning, after finally getting better from a particularly pesky spring cold. My body felt like an old car, but it was so good to move and start working out the cracks. Whenever I have to take a break from yoga I’m reminded of what a difference yoga makes!

After class I started thinking about how yoga can help us live life with more awareness, and how great it is that we come together and share this in yoga class. But wouldn’t it be great if we also shared our thoughts on the practice, read books about different paths, and supported each other in our work to live more authentically outside the classroom? Kind of like a yoga class / spiritual book club / creative support group? With lots of chai, of course :)

Does anyone know of such a group or belong to one?

  1. I’ve always wished such a group existed! I know some people who are part of a non-violent communication group, and also some kirtan groups, but I only know of a book group sponsored by a studio…

  2. At one of the yoga studios I attend (in NYC, unfortunately) the teachers regularly host little forums to talk about the yoga sutras. That’s maybe a good place to start–if you form your own you could have a few translations on hand, then talk about what a handful mean to you each time. The sutras are a great way to get started!

  3. A very great site for beginners learning meditation. It is very informative and interesting. Great tips given and very inspiring. It makes the readers want to read more. Thanks!

  4. I belong to a ‘heart circle’ – introduced to it by Tej Steiner in the US about 3 years ago. See http://www.heartcirclenetwork.com/
In our case, the small group meets every 2 or 3 weeks on Sunday afternoons in our home.
There are now heart circles all over Britain, I believe.

  5. I think this is a great idea, and was actually hoping to come across when I found your site. I have been looking for some good reads!

  6. Spiritual is Spiritual and yoga is a also Spiritual, so there is no alternate of Spiritual, just do yoga and become Spiritual…

  7. I’ve been searching for something like this because I just finished writing an ebook, Secrets of An Accidental Yogi: Yoga Wisdom for Better Health, Less Stress & Great Sex. Obviously I’m trying to get the word out and was hoping there would be groups like this–in person or online–but haven’t had much luck finding anything. But if any of you decide to start one of these groups, I hope you’ll consider my book! :)
