Street Yoga Teacher Training in Seattle
It sometimes seems like yoga is the domain of those who can easily afford the $15 studio class fee, but the benefits of yoga can make the biggest difference to those that usually don’t have access to yoga classes.
Street Yoga is an organization based in Portland that offers free yoga and meditation classes to homeless youth in Portland and Seattle, working to share the teachings of yoga with young people who would otherwise not be able to take a yoga class. Street Yoga believes that yoga can build physical and mental strength and facilitate the healing process, helping kids feel at home in their own body, mind, and community.
Want to get involved? Street Yoga is organizing a teacher training in Seattle March 20-22, 2009. The training will offer practical, real world knowledge and techniques for teaching yoga to at-risk youth, and hopefully inspire you to volunteer to teach yoga to homeless youth in Seattle or start a program in another city.
The teacher training is open to all levels and backgrounds. Street Yoga writes on their web site: “What we do teach is how you can teach from what you do know, how you can take your yoga experience, your life skills, your passion to serve young people and weave that together into a practice that will bring the amazing benefits of yoga to the people you teach.”
